Avril is a Kenyan singer, songwriter, actress, and entertainer. She is popularly known for her singles “Mama”, “Kitu Kimoja”, “Chokoza” and “Hakuna Yule”. She also has appeared in films such as ”Shuga” and ”Sumu la Penzi”. Her full name is Judith Nyambura Mwangi but is well known by her mononame ”Avril”.

Early Life
Avril was born on 30th April 1986 and raised in Nakuru county. She was born into a family of two. She is the firstborn and has a younger brother.
Education
She attended St. Joseph’s Girls Nsambya in Uganda for her High School Education From 2001 – 2005.
In 2006 she joined the University of Nairobi for her undergraduate Degree in Art and Design, Graphics, and Product Design and graduated in 2009.
Musical career
In 2005, she met with talent manager Emmanuel Banda of Ogopa Deejays Production when she was taking part in the Jaza Lorry initiative.
Banda tried convincing her to venture into music but she wanted to focus on her studies first. In 2019 when she was in her second year, she changed her mind about music and recorded and released her first single (“Mama”) after signing a record deal with Ogopa DJs’. She was also featured on Colonel Mustapha’s “Mtaani dot com” which was released and uploaded on youtube.
In 2010, she collaborated with A.Y on his 2010 single “Leo Remix” which made her gain prominence. That same year she collaborated with Marya’s single “Chokoza”. The song cautioned men from thinking that women only go to clubs to look for sexual partners but instead they go there because they want to have some fun.
In 2012, she released ‘Kitu Kimoja‘. 2013, she released Hakuna Yule’(Missing You) and her contract with Ogopa Djs ended. The same year, the singer started her acting career by taking up a role in the second season of Shuga playing the character of Miss B’have.
In 2015, she was signed under King Kaka Empire but the label only provided her management services as she worked as an independent artist.
In 2017, she released ‘Uko’, and ‘Babiee’ amongst others. In 2021, she released a new album, ‘Spirit’, with 13 tracks. She has worked with other artists like Sauti Sol’s Savara, Khaligraph Jones, Python, and Mbithi.
Avril is also an actress. She has appeared in Tv series which include Shuga as Miss B, Noose of Gold where she played Corrine, a drug criminal, Mali as Atiah, Sumu la Penzi as Eva, and Skandals Kibao as Karen.

Avril lives a very private life therefore not much is known about her. She has a son and keeps him away from social media.
Relationships
Avril dated Kenya’s South African boyfriend Tinashe Lesile Mugadzaa. Rumors spread that the two will get married soon after he proposed, but the wedding never happened.
She was also rumored to be dating J Blessing a video director but they denied the allegations.
Avril has a son but the father of her child is yet to be known.
