Ayra Starr is a Nigerian model, singer, and songwriter. She is currently signed under Mavin record label. His real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr. His genre of music is Afropop and R&B.  She began a fashion career at the age of 16 with Quove Model Management before deciding to pursue her musical career.

Early Life

 Ayra Starr was born in Cotonou, Bénin on 14 June 2002, and grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. She has four siblings. Two brothers Ade and Dami, and two sisters Tolulope and Jesutunmise. She lost her dad in 2018. They live in Mainland part of Lagos with her mother and brother.


Ayra received her basic and secondary school education in Lagos, Nigeria.

She is BA degree holder in international relations and political science from Les Cours Sonou University.

Musical Career

Before venturing into music, she was a model signed with Quove Models. She modelled at Mazelle Studio, Complete Fashion Magazine and Esperanza Woman companies.

She started singing at the age of 10 years. She wrote songs with her brother and also sang in her high school choir.

Her greatest music inspiration came from Nicki Minaj and she often felt like the second Nicki Minaj.


Her stage name Ayra Starr means ‘woke and eye-opening’ and that’s what she stands for.

In 2019, she began posting covers of songs by artists like 2Face Idibia online.

Her first song ”Damage” was released in December 2019 and she first posted it on her Instagram page.

The song gave her a chance to meet with Don Jazzy and it led her to her first recording contract with Mavin Records.

In January 2021, she released her first single debut under the record label. She wrote one of the songs on the EP alone, and co-wrote the remaining four with her brother Dami. She intended that her music that would blend with both young and old listeners.

After the release of the EP album, it became the number-one album on Nigeria iTunes and Apple music.

Between March and April, she released a remix versions of “Ija” and ‘Away” featuring Tokimonsta and Lilo respectively.

She performed at the UC Berkeley Nigerian Students Association virtual culture show titled The Olori Awards. On 28 April 2021, the official music video for her song “DITR” was released on YouTube via Mavin. In June 2021, the music video for another song titled “Sare”, was released. Both music videos were directed by Afolabi Olalekan.

On 11 July 2021, Ayra Starr performed for the season finale of Nigerian Idol. On August same year, she released another album titled 19& Dangerous.

She collaborated with Louddaaa, Don Jazzy, London and Andre Vibez. The album marked her first time recording alongside guest artists such as Fousheé and C kay.

Her song ‘Bloody Samaritan” climbed the Top 50 for several weeks, it reached the number one spot, making her the first female artist to do so with a solo single.

On 4 September 2021, she was named brand ambassador for Pepsi Nigeria.
