Early Life
Rema was born on 1st May 2000 in Benin city. His father and brother has passed on and he is only left with her mother who is under his care.
He attributes the death of his father Justice Ikubor to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Education
He went to Ighile Group of Schools located in Edo state for both his primary and secondary school education.
Currently he joined The University of Lagos, Nigeria to study Creative Arts.
Musical Career
In 2018, he posted a freestyle on D’Prince’s track “Gucci Gang”, posted on Social Media and in return it went viral.
D’Prince the owner of Jonzing World Record a subsidiary of Mavin Records was thrilled by him. He payed a fright fpr him to Lagos and offered him arecord deal.
In 2019, he released a four track EP “Rema” , ”Freestyle” and ‘Bad commando”, and was featured on tracks by D’Prince,Thutmose, and Peter Maxx.
Same year, he released ‘ Dumebi” whose video was directed by Ademola Falomo and garnered over 60 million views on youtube.
Later he released another track, “Iron Man,” which was included on Barack & Michelle Obama’s Summer Playlist 2019.
In 2012, he began calling his sound Afrorave which he blends the Afrobeats style with Arabian and Indian influences.
In 2o22, he released his debut album ‘Rave and Rosses” which included 16 tracks and features from artists like Chris Brown and AJ Tracey.
The album spent some time in the charts, reaching the number five slot of Billboard’s World Albums chart.
In 2023, Rema won Digital Artist of the Year award at the Soundcity MVP Awards which were held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.
